Salesforce and Google Expand their Partnership

Google Workspace and Salesforce announced a partnership extension. Companies are going to enhance their AI capabilities.

Salesforce and Google announced their teaming up at the Dreamforce 2023. Integrating Salesforce AI-powered CRM with Google’s comprehensive productivity platforms, such as Google Calendar, Docs, Meet, and Gmail, the partnership helps users to get the most from the companies’ strengths. Also, Google Workspace becomes the first extensibility partner for Salesforce’s Einstein Copilot – a new generative AI-powered conversational assistant for every Salesforce application. At the same time, Salesforce became the first partner that fully integrated with Google Workspace’s Duet AI extensions framework.

Automation and Artificial Intelligence

The two key advantages of such a partnership are automation and AI.

  • This collaboration introduces automation, empowering auto-create interaction summaries, schedule follow-ups, and assign tasks based on identified actions. For instance, Google Meet call summaries can trigger the assignment of tasks in Salesforce, launch the workflow, and reduce manual efforts.

  • Extended partnership unlocks the full AI capabilities for Salesforce and Google customers. The integration is supposed to revolutionize user interactions with both and also is expected to enhance productivity.

What do Salesforce and Google say about the collaboration?

The extended partnership between Salesforce and Google is a great leap of progress in Generative AI evolution for both. David Schmaier, President and Chief Product Officer at Salesforce, emphasized that the partnership will empower companies to unlock the full potential of AI. The deep integration of Salesforce and Google Workspace aims to save time and unlock greater value from data. David Schmaier also said that they are going to “fundamentally change how people work.”

In his turn, Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, called the partnership “an example of why an open and extensible ecosystem for generative AI will create the most value for customers.” He also said that this collaboration aims to redefine work dynamics, fostering innovation and efficiency at scale making routine tasks more purposeful.

Previous Google and Salesforce partnership

This is the second significant partnership between Google and Salesforce. Google Cloud and Salesforce started their “strategic technology partnership” back in 2017. The first collaboration was mostly analytics- and big data-focused.

“As cloud-native companies, our partnership offers a unique opportunity to turn marketing, service, and sales data into actionable insights and better business outcomes” – Google.

The partnership connected the Salesforce CRM platform with Google’s G Suite, which includes tools like Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Google Docs Editors, and Google Meet. Available integrations enabled users to surface powerful intelligence about customers from Salesforce directly within Gmail, Sheets, Calendar, Drive, Docs, and Hangouts Meet.

Sridhar Ramaswamy, Google’s senior vice president of ads and commerce, told those days:

“This partnership addresses the No. 1 request that we have from our customers” and called it “a first-of-its-kind integration.”

Here are some features that are available for Salesforce and Google clients since 2017:

  • Salesforce Lightning for Gmail enables both showcasing CRM data in Gmail and displaying communication with customers through Gmail in Salesforce CRM. This feature also helps prioritize emails and suggests next steps based on content.

  • Salesforce Lightning for Google Sheets: fast transferring content from Salesforce Records or Reports to a new Sheet. Bi-directional data updates ensure real-time information for all involved users.

  • Salesforce for Hangouts Meet: access CRM details directly within the Hangouts Meet interface. In this way, users get reasonable insights right in the communications platform.
